Intermediate Production Logging and Reservoir Monitoring

This course provides you in-depth instruction on cased hole logging tool physics, interpretation, and quality control techniques applied to wellbore specific production logging and reservoir monitoring scenarios.    You will learn how and when to use these tools for your specific logging objectives including applications to three phase flow measurement.  You will also learn quick look techniques for identifying quality control problems with existing logs.  Using hands-on examples, you will learn to interpret behind casing resistivity and measuring three phase flow using production logs.

  • Agenda

    Day 1

    • Inflow performance and productivity index for oil wells and gas wells
    • Outflow performance: matching inflow with outflow to optimize well productivity
    • Flow Regimes in vertical, deviated and horizontal wells
    • Slippage velocities of oil and gas, and obtaining these from charts.

    Day 2

    • Various techniques of measuring individual fluid velocities of oil, water, gas using spinners, oxygen activation, phase velocity logging and gas bubble velocity
    • Measurements of three phase holdups using electric and optical sensors
    • Spinner calibrations to obtain fluid velocities and hence production rates

    Day 3

    • Production logging in horizontal wells.
    • The physics of pulsed neutron logging (PNL)
    • Capture mode in PNL logging

    Day 4

    • Carbon/Oxygen (C/O) mode
    • Cased hole formation resistivity
    • Slim hole induction logging in plastic (non-conductive) casings

    Day 5

    • Workshop using capture mode for evaluating water and gas saturation
    • Workshop on interpreting resistivity logs behind the casing
    • Workshop on production logging in three phase flow
  • Audience

Petrophysicists and engineers responsible for wellbore diagnostics or reservoir monitoring who seek a detailed understanding of cased hole logging tools.
