    Two Phase Separation

This course will provide participants with the knowledge necessary to understand the two phase separation, its components, and operation. Discussions will focus on the principles of operation of two-phase separation, as well as the different kinds of two-phase separators that are used in the oil and gas industry.

Participants will be exposed to the operation of the two-phase separator, its internal parts, and the associated equipment used to support the two-phase separation process.

Upon completion of this course, participants should have gained an understanding of the technology related to two-phase separation within the industry.  Having this knowledge will help each technician develop confidence and professional enthusiasm, therefore, increasing their efficiency. The knowledge that technicians gained from this course will be further expanded by on-job training and practical experience they will receive throughout the duration of their career.

    Day 1

    System Overview

    • Flow diagram
    • Principle of operation
    • Vertical and horizontal separators
    • Types of separators

On day one, participants will gain a general overview of the types of two-phase separation systems found in the oil industry today.  With the use of flow diagrams the two-phase separator’s operation in relation to whole process will be discussed.

    Day 2

    Components and Features

    • Internal parts
    • liquid capacity
    • Control
    • Pressure relief
    • Safety and ESD considerations

During day two, participants will focus on understanding of the internal parts of the two phase separator. They will also gain knowledge about the operation of the two-phase separator and control strategy used to separate the gas-oil mixture. Safety devices and the connection to the ESD system will also be discussed.

This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists, instrumentation personnel, and safety and maintenance personnel.

Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
