    Steam and Condensate System

Steam is distributed from the boiler to all steam users in the plant.  A dependable steam supply is essential for safe and efficient plant operation.  Condensate is steam that has some heat energy removed from it returning it to the water phase.  Since this water has already been treated and still contains heat, its recovery and use greatly reduces the expense of boiler feed water.

In this course, participants will gain an understanding of the principles, use, and distribution of steam to the various users in the plant.  They will also be exposed to the operation of a steam distribution system.

Participants will learn about the steam condensate system, what is meant by steam condensate recovery, and some of the problems that can be encountered when dealing with steam condensate.  Emergency and Process Device (ESD) and (PSD) considerations as well as the safety, health, and environmental practices will also be discussed.

    Day 1

    Steam Distribution System

    • Properties of steam
    • Uses of steam
    • Steam distribution system overview and operation

On the first day, participants will gain an understanding of the properties and uses of steam.  They will also learn about the steam distribution system, its various components, and how the system operates.

    Day 2

    Steam Condensate System

    • Steam condensate overview
    • Steam condensate recovery and problems
    • PSD and ESD considerations
    • Safety, health, and environment

On day two, participants will be exposed to an overview of the steam condensate system.  They will also learn about the steam condensate recovery, its various components, and how the system operates.  They will also learn about some of the problems that arise with steam condensate systems and the importance of adhering to safety and reliability issues faced in day-to-day operational activities.

This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists, and maintenance personnel.  The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning, as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.

Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
