On day one, participants will be exposed to an introduction to process control and why process control is needed in industry. They will become familiar with the function of the final control loop and the fundamental parts of the process control loop.
Process Control Signals

On day two, participants will build upon their basic understanding of process control and learn about the types of signals that supply information to the controller as well as the signals generated by the controller that operates the final control element. They will also gain an understanding of how control signals are transferred in the process control loop.

On day three, participants will become familiar with the principles of process control and the different types of controllers that are applicable to different industrial applications. They will become familiar with the different types of controllers and the different modes in which they operate.

The course continues on day four with discussions on how the control loop is used in process control. Participants will learn about the various kinds of process control and loop dynamics as well as the physical and chemical characteristics of a process. Once the process dynamics are identified, participants will be exposed adapting the control loop to the specific loop dynamic. The participants will also become familiar with the elements of protection involved in control loops.

The course concludes on day five with the focus turning to more advanced types of control. Participants will gain knowledge on how to assess the process dynamics and match an advanced controller to meet its needs.
This course is mainly targeted to instrumentation technicians working in the field as an introduction or refresher. The course can be applicable to technicians working in other disciplines, equipment purchasers, procurement and storage personnel, job planners and immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
Anyone taking this course should have some exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
