Upon completion of this day the participants will be able to understand the technologies and processes for a typical oilfield, operating center concepts, and production fluid treatment objectives. Production fluid separation will also be covered on this day including the processes, design, and potential operation problems. The first day will end with a discussion on emulsion theory, stabilization, destabilization, de-emulsifier, and tests.
Oil Treatment Basics, Treaters, and Dehydration Performance Factors

On the second day, participants will learn about the oil treatment basics. Specific topics to be discussed will include dehydration technologies and processes, desalting, Stoke’s Law of Settling, variable affecting crude oil dehydration, and electrostatic theory. De-emulsifier requirements and selections and a group discussion on chemical used will also be included on this day.
Crude Oil Desalting

The focus of day three will be about crude oil desalting. Topics that will be covered on this day include the main problems of salty crude oil, oil desalting principles, equipment, processes, technologies, and the life cycle costing for selection considerations. Operation and design considerations will also be covered. The day will end with attendees participating in exercises over what they have learned.

Day four will cover water treatment. The properties of produced water, environmental regulations, water chemistry issues, and factors affecting the water treatment will be discussed.

The last day will continue the discussion of water treatment, to include equipment, solid removal, and chemical treatment. Participant will also learn about the water treatment process, equipment design, and de-oiling technologies. Participants will also get a chance to look at studies of water treatment in real cases.
