Petrel Well Design

This Course is based on Petrel 2015.1 release

This course is designed specifically for SIS drilling support to learn the well planning fundamentals and Petrel drilling workflows.

There are four main topics: offset well analysis, well design; well positioning and real-time operation.

The attendee is guided through the preparation stage for data used in well design. This includes project setup, data import and preparation. You will learn how to import trajectory and targets from third-party applications, such as EDM.

You will undertake well design exercises integrated all the elements of the well planning, from making offset well analysis using drilling risks; defining geological targets; building drillable well paths to intercept geological targets; do trajectory uncertainty analysis, create driller’s targets; perform anti-collision analysis, modify the path to avoid collision with nearby wells; finally generate report and plotting.

After the planning phase, you will learn how real-time data acquisitions are handled in Petrel.

How to get from the Airport to Oslo city

When you get to Oslo Airport Gardemoen the easiest and fastest way to get to town is by taking the “Flytoget” (the airport express train). It takes only 21 minutes to get to Oslo Central Station. The ticket is 160 NOK, and can be bought with creditcards on special new credit card machines before you board the train. (Note: when going back to the airport you have to slide your card through the machine before and after the journey). Once at the Central Station it would be easiest to then take a taxi to the hotel.

Please find the links to the train and bus schedules below:

How to get to the Schlumberger offices in Asklakveien 14E

The Underground station is a blue sign with a big T in a circle (“T-bane”). Buy a ticket before you get on the train (See Fares below). Take line number 5 towards Østerås and get off at Røa. The stop before Røa is called Hovseter.

If you wish you can take a taxi from the hotel to Schlumberger’s offices. If you're traveling in a group, this may be cheaper and easier than catching the train. The trip will take approximately 15-20 minutes, depending a bit on traffic of course.

10 minutes walk: When you get to Røa station you go to the other side (as though you are taking the train back) and start walking over the parking place and on to a small gravel road. Then continue straight through the housing area and past the parking place. You then take a left and continue straight on to the road makes a natural right turn. You will see Schlumberger’s offices on your left hand side.

    Fares (03/2009)

Single ticket - NOK 25 (good for 1 hour, NOK 36 if bought from bus/tram driver)
    Flexikort (8-Trips) - NOK 180
    Dagskort (24-Hour Pass) - NOK 65
    7 dagers kort (7-Day Pass) - NOK 200
    Monthly Pass NOK 550 (transferable)

All tickets are valid on buses, tram (trikken), metro (T-bane), boats and local trains within Oslo. Tickets have to be validated before starting the first trip.

Note: In case you register from any of the following companies:
Addax Petroleum, Amerada Hess, BG Group, ConocoPhillips, Gaz de France Suez, RWE Dea, Shell, Statoil or Talisman Energy a Purchase Order is required.
