Petrel Structural Modeling

4.6 Average client rating (based on 301 attendee reviews)

This course replaces the previous Petrel 2014 Structural Modeling course material.

The exercises and training slide sets were updated to reflect the Petrel E&P Software Platform 2015 interface.

The Petrel 2015 Structural Modeling course presents different approaches to building models that capture geologically complex situations, such as reverse faults and truncations.

The Structural Modeling course presents the flexibility of Petrel and the different approaches that enable you to build 3D models ready for simulation.

The first part of the course demonstrates the real power of Petrel in building watertight frameworks of structurally and stratigraphically complex regions using the new Volume Based Modeling functionality. It is also demonstrates the robust Fault modeling while interpreting seismic functionality which allows rapid real-time creation of the Structural framework, placing the geophysical interpretation at the core of good model building.

The same structural model created with Volume Based Modeling technology is the input to compute a flattened, non-deformed space (Depospace) that can eventually be used for property population honoring shape and position of objects, facies and variogram ranges.

Troubleshooting methods addressing the main issues the user can face while building the structural framework model and how they can be corrected are also covered.

The second part of the course presents the standard Corner Point Gridding approach used for the construction of a 3D grid.

Possible workflows combining Structural framework and Corner point gridding are also covered.

Additional tools available to optimize the resulting models are presented and can be used if holding the Structural and fault analysis license. Exercises related have also been included.

How to get from the Airport to Oslo city

When you get to Oslo Airport Gardemoen the easiest and fastest way to get to town is by taking the “Flytoget” (the airport express train). It takes only 21 minutes to get to Oslo Central Station. The ticket is 160 NOK, and can be bought with creditcards on special new credit card machines before you board the train. (Note: when going back to the airport you have to slide your card through the machine before and after the journey). Once at the Central Station it would be easiest to then take a taxi to the hotel.

Please find the links to the train and bus schedules below:

How to get to the Schlumberger offices in Asklakveien 14E

The Underground station is a blue sign with a big T in a circle (“T-bane”). Buy a ticket before you get on the train (See Fares below). Take line number 5 towards Østerås and get off at Røa. The stop before Røa is called Hovseter.

If you wish you can take a taxi from the hotel to Schlumberger’s offices. If you're traveling in a group, this may be cheaper and easier than catching the train. The trip will take approximately 15-20 minutes, depending a bit on traffic of course.

10 minutes walk: When you get to Røa station you go to the other side (as though you are taking the train back) and start walking over the parking place and on to a small gravel road. Then continue straight through the housing area and past the parking place. You then take a left and continue straight on to the road makes a natural right turn. You will see Schlumberger’s offices on your left hand side.

    Fares (03/2009)

Single ticket - NOK 25 (good for 1 hour, NOK 36 if bought from bus/tram driver)
    Flexikort (8-Trips) - NOK 180
    Dagskort (24-Hour Pass) - NOK 65
    7 dagers kort (7-Day Pass) - NOK 200
    Monthly Pass NOK 550 (transferable)

All tickets are valid on buses, tram (trikken), metro (T-bane), boats and local trains within Oslo. Tickets have to be validated before starting the first trip.

Note: In case you register from any of the following companies:
Addax Petroleum, Amerada Hess, BG Group, ConocoPhillips, Gaz de France Suez, RWE Dea, Shell, Statoil or Talisman Energy a Purchase Order is required.
