Practical AVO and Seismic Inversion with Petrel

4.4 Average client rating (based on 228 attendee reviews)

A profitable development of an oil or gas field starts with a good understanding of the subsurface as a basis for efficient and successful field management. The integration of AVO and inversion techniques in Quantitative Interpretation helps to create the best possible petrophysics subsurface model. Improved discrimination of reservoir units are made and models are generated using logs and seismic data. These techniques lead to highly accurate or highly probable (static) subsurface models compatible (if correctly up-scaled) to dynamic reservoir models obtained from reservoir engineering measurements and computations.

The correct use of seismic attributes, well data analysis, AVO and seismic inversion is essential to establish subsurface models that can be used for improved field development planning and design.

Learning, methods and tools:

This course has Petrel exercises to reinforce learning

At the end of the course participants will understand basic concepts in quantitative seismic analysis and interpretation based on AVO, well-to-seismic calibration and inversion techniques. Participants will consolidate their understanding of modern technology with recent field study examples and practical workshop exercises.

This course is also available as a 3 day course without Petrel exercises

How to get from the Airport to Oslo city

When you get to Oslo Airport Gardemoen the easiest and fastest way to get to town is by taking the “Flytoget” (the airport express train). It takes only 21 minutes to get to Oslo Central Station. The ticket is 160 NOK, and can be bought with creditcards on special new credit card machines before you board the train. (Note: when going back to the airport you have to slide your card through the machine before and after the journey). Once at the Central Station it would be easiest to then take a taxi to the hotel.

Please find the links to the train and bus schedules below:

How to get to the Schlumberger offices in Asklakveien 14E

The Underground station is a blue sign with a big T in a circle (“T-bane”). Buy a ticket before you get on the train (See Fares below). Take line number 5 towards Østerås and get off at Røa. The stop before Røa is called Hovseter.

If you wish you can take a taxi from the hotel to Schlumberger’s offices. If you're traveling in a group, this may be cheaper and easier than catching the train. The trip will take approximately 15-20 minutes, depending a bit on traffic of course.

10 minutes walk: When you get to Røa station you go to the other side (as though you are taking the train back) and start walking over the parking place and on to a small gravel road. Then continue straight through the housing area and past the parking place. You then take a left and continue straight on to the road makes a natural right turn. You will see Schlumberger’s offices on your left hand side.

    Fares (03/2009)

Single ticket - NOK 25 (good for 1 hour, NOK 36 if bought from bus/tram driver)
    Flexikort (8-Trips) - NOK 180
    Dagskort (24-Hour Pass) - NOK 65
    7 dagers kort (7-Day Pass) - NOK 200
    Monthly Pass NOK 550 (transferable)

All tickets are valid on buses, tram (trikken), metro (T-bane), boats and local trains within Oslo. Tickets have to be validated before starting the first trip.

Note: In case you register from any of the following companies:
Addax Petroleum, Amerada Hess, BG Group, ConocoPhillips, Gaz de France Suez, RWE Dea, Shell, Statoil or Talisman Energy a Purchase Order is required.
