The Heriot-Watt University's graduate Petroleum Engineering program, MSc. in Petroleum Engineering can now be acquired through NExT. This program affords Distance Learning students of the University an opportunity to attend short 5-day workshops in Abu Dhabi. Individuals can also apply through NExT for this masters program and become legitimate students of the University's distance learning poll

The University's Institute of Petroleum Engineering is a highly successful distance learning program provider for the past 3 decades. To enrich learners' experience and improve the chances of successfully completing the course, NExT is offering students the opportunity to attend these short courses in Abu Dhabi with the same professors and other approved faculty instructors who deliver at the institute's campus in Scotland.

On successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a MSc. in Petroleum Engineering from the Heriot-Watt University, Scotland.

Program Structure

The Program consists of a total of eight modules, a Field Development Project (FDP) and a research.
The eight modules include:

  • Petroleum Geoscience
  • Formation Evaluation
  • Reservoir Engineering I, II, and III
  • Production Technology
  • Drilling Engineering – Well Design and construction Engineering
  • Petroleum Economics.

Each year, NExT will organize a series of short courses in these areas of development. Students are expected to attend these sessions, submit assignments as required and take and exam in any of the approved locations world-wide.

The Program consists of a total of eight modules, one field development project and a research. Students are required to attend the first week instructor-led training session for each module, submit all assignments, participate in discussions and write a final exam for each module.

Entrance Requirements

Students wishing to apply to the program require a Degree in engineering or a science discipline. Minimum English scores of TOEFL 550 (manual) or 213 (computerized), or IELTS 6.0 are required. If you have completed your undergraduate degree in English or work in a company where English is the primary language used then you are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Fees

The fee per short course in Abu Dhabi, including course material and exam fee, is 4,300 US$. There is a total of 8 short courses; students may choose to attend some or all of the courses. It is however mandatory to pass the exams for all modules to obtain the MSc. in Petroleum Engineering.

The fee for the Field Development Plan project and the Research Paper is 2,250 US$ each.
