masters in petroleum engineering
from Heriot-Watt University & NExT
The masters program registration for this year is now open in NExT Abu Dhabi. Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering can now be acquired through NExT, in association with Heriot-Watt University.
The Masters Degree obtained is certified from Heriot-Watt University Scotland, a successful leader in this program for the past 3 decades.
What are the benefits of registering with this program?
- The program is aimed at the upstream sector of the international oil and gas industry. It is applied in nature and is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams. These teams encompass a wide range of clearly defined disciplines-from the descriptive, such as Petroleum Geoscience to heavily numerical, such as Reservoir Simulation.
- Our program is designed for employees in the petroleum industry whom are not able to register for MSc on campus due to the nature of their jobs or afraid to lose their current jobs if they intend to go on study-leave.
- Students will attend a 5 days instructor-led training session for each module in Abu-Dhabi, which will be taught by HeriotWatt University Professors. Abu-Dhabi is also the location where they will do all the class assignments.
- The material for the discipline specific modules and the field development projects are delivered in comprehensive learning manuals. The manuals include self-assessment exercises and typical examination papers. All the numerical exercises and the sample examinations are accompanied by model answers. The field development project manual contains a set of exploration and appraisal well data used by the students working in teams, to produce a field development plan. This project provides an opportunity for ideas and methods, assimilated through the discipline specific modules, to be applied to a real field development design problem. Along with the research project, it also provides an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their ability to produce a deep and comprehensive analysis of a specific problem.
- The program is very flexible to suit all employees in different managerial levels.
- Students registered for the program will avoid the hassle of administrational issues as NExT will take care of it.
- The best suitable time & place is where the student will apply to take his/her exams.
- Every student will be able to chose between two different dates to set his exam during the year.
- No matter where our student is based, we will facilitate Visa, Accommodation, Transportation and any other requirements in order to attend the 5 days class in Abu-Dhabi.
Program Structure
The Program consists of a total of eleven modules. The nine discipline specific modules include: Petroleum Geoscience, Formation Evaluation, Reservoir Engineering I, II, and III, Production Technology I and II, Drilling Engineering, and Petroleum Economics. The two project modules include a field development project and a research project. Students are required to attend the first week instructor-led training session for each module, submit all assignments, participate in discussions and write a final exam for each module.
Entrance Requirements
Students wishing to apply to the program require a Degree in engineering or a science discipline such as geology, physics, chemistry or mathematics, from an accredited university. Minimum English scores of TOEFL 550 (manual) or 213 (computerized), or IELTS 6.0 are required. If you have completed your undergraduate degree in English or work in a company where English is the primary language used then you are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
