Announcing the winners of the 2014 PetroChallenge for Schools Final

March 02, 2015

3629 school students, participating in 1072 teams at 14 PetroChallenge events across 7 countries. Only one team can win and at the Global PetroChallenge for Schools Final held in London in February the victorious team was Norway.

  Congratulations to the Norway team!

To get there the team beat 54 other competing teams in the Tromsø PetroChallenge. In winning their home event they earned the highest overall company value with an impressive $29.3 billion beating 320 other Norwegian teams to win a place to represent Norway at the 2014 PetroChallenge final, along with teams from Canada, Denmark, Greenland, Iceland, UK and USA.

It was a nail biting final with Team Canada at the top of the leader board for much of the day. It looked like this would be the 3rd win in a row for Canada, but no! Team Norway hit jackpot with a huge oil discover in the final round, leaving Canada heartbroken and dropping to 7th place. This resulted in the astute Norwegians storming into the lead in the closing stages, with Iceland in 2nd place and Greenland finishing 3rd

PetroChallenge is a series of educational events aimed at schools or universities (this event was the Schools event) with the purpose of developing the students’ knowledge of the oil and gas industry and their interest in pursuing educational and professional careers in the industry.

PetroChallenge utilizes the upstream learning simulator, OilSim, in which teams compete and collaborate to discover and develop hydrocarbons. OilSim is also used by industry to train professionals in technical and non-technical disciplines like geology, geophysics, project management, strategy, decision making and teamwork.

Could you work as a team to create the best return on investment and beat thousands of others as eager as you?
