    Basic Confined Space Safety

    Course Objective

    • Confined Spaces are regarded as high-risk areas with strong indications and areas of harm that must be identified, targeted, and controlled.
    • This course helps to assess the importance of identifying different types of confined spaces, based on the permit-to-work system.
    • The risks and hazards with confined space systems are also assessed, based on the type of confined space and the nature of the work being done shall also be assessed.
    • The trainee should also understand how to follow the workplace procedures in the confined space, be able to identify any hazards from the confined space based on those procedures, and based on that how to evacuate safely if something goes wrong.
The following points shall be discussed in the course:
    • Understand what a confined space is and what criteria it should have to be a confined space.
    • Understand the steps to a permit to work system.
    • Understand how a permit to work the system is implemented in the workplace.
    • The controls which are needed to prevent the spread of risks and hazards from the confined space and how to maintain them.
    • Elaborate on the importance of ventilation in a confined space.
    • The role of a confined space supervisor in providing safety for others in a confined space system.
    • The role of a flagman in a confined space working system.
    • The role of a firewatcher in a confined space, particularly in a hot work permit.
    • What the individual worker should follow the permit to work system.
    • What to do if something goes wrong during confined space work.
    • How to evacuate from the confined space during an emergency.
