    OFM Reservoir Optimization

    This is a “hands on” workshop where participants will be able to apply engineering principals in a real world scenario.  The reservoir will be developed through multiple phases – initial primary production, development through workover candidate and infill drilling, final primary production, and secondary recovery through waterflooding. 

    Participants will make reservoir engineering decisions involving field development.  Then, they will workover existing wells and drill new wells in order to improve field recovery.  A limited budget will be given in order to perform economic evaluations and prioritize future work programs.  The goal of the workshop is for engineers to apply engineering processes and systems in a real-world environment.  The result will be enhanced reservoir performance.  This knowledge will then be taken back to the workplace and used in day-to-day use of the Oilfield Manager.

    Day 1

    Initial Primary Recovery I

    • Reservoir familiarization
    • Reservoir evaluation
    • Calculating volumetric OOIP

    The class will begin with a discussion focusing on reservoir familiarization and evaluation.  Participants will use logs and advanced mapping tools to evaluate geological features through log visualization and analysis.  They will also learn to estimate volumetric OOIP using grip mapping techniques. 

    Day 2

    Initial Primary Recovery II

    • Production phase familiarization
    • Workover candidate recognition
    • Evaluating reservoir performance
    • Advanced decline curve analysis

    On the second day, participants will use engineering tools and processes in order to evaluate reservoir performance, as well as perform workover selection and prioritization.  Advanced decline curve analysis, production data analysis, and the use of calculated variables will be covered.

    Day 3

    Initial Field Development

    • Well volumetric drainage radius
    • Horizontal well analysis
    • Workover follow-up

    Well volumetric drainage radius, horizontal well analysis, and workover follow-up will be discussed on this day.  Participants will use engineering tools and processes to calculate the dynamic and final volumetric well drainage radii and perform horizontal well productivity analysis.  At the end of this day participants will have a list of potential workover candidates and infill drilling locations.  All recommendations will be governed by a capital and expense investment budget.  The candidates will be ranked by capital efficiency and operational risk.

    Day 4

    Mature Primary Recovery and Initial Secondary Recovery

    • Additional workover candidate recognition
    • Waterflooding pilot analysis
    • Secondary recovery feasibility

    Participants will use advanced reporting and mapping for additional workover candidate selection and prioritization.  A pilot waterflood pattern will be analyzed for secondary recovery feasibility using SPE waterflooding monograph, mobility ratio, estimation of Dykstra-Parson’s coefficient for heterogeneity, initial pattern production, and injection performance.

    Day 5

    Mature Secondary Recovery

    • Waterflood evaluation
    • Surveillance
    • Techniques for water injection performance

    Participants will analyze the secondary recovery of the reservoir in order to optimize the expansion of waterflood patterns.  Techniques such as hall plot, x-plot, pattern analysis, and injection flood front radii estimations will be used to optimize water injection performance and make improved secondary recovery decisions.

    Petroleum, Reservoir, and Production Enhancement Engineers, Geologists, Operations and Business Development Managers, and anyone interested in analyzing oil and gas performance data.

    OFM fundamentals coarse or at least three months of application usage with OFM 2012, as well as basic knowledge of oil and gas production, Microsoft ® Excel spreadsheets, and basic algebra.
