Petrel Advanced Wells - RILS (Remote Instructor Led Series)

This is a Remote Instructor Led Series (RILS) training. The remote classroom delivery is a modality that takes advantage of the instructor led training content, while allowing the same content to be delivered remotely. All training sessions will be delivered online with no face-to-face classroom attendance.

This course builds on the Petrel Reservoir Engineering course and goes more in-depth on the modeling of deviated wells. The standard well modeling with Eclipse and FrontSim treats the entire well bore as a single entity and therefore cannot take into account pressure changes along the wellbore due to friction, valves or pumps. Such devices are often used with horizontal wells to control the inflow profile along the well trace.

To model these effects, the multi-segmented well model must be used. This course explains the capabilities of this well model and how to use Petrel to set it up. How to add completions such as valves and pumps and how to make development strategies utilizing the equipment is also covered. Sector models can be useful to study parts of a reservoir.

This course shows how to define sectors, how to select boundary conditions and how to run sector models.

The course will be delivered in three (3) sessions lasting ~ four (4) hours each. An intensive agenda also implies homework after each session. Hence full-time commitment is expected from participants.

Each student will need the following to attend:

    1. Windows-based PC*
    2. USB Headset
    3. Internet Access capable for 720HD video-streaming
    4. Second monitor or tablet (highly recommended)
    5. Webcam (highly recommended)

*Hands-on exercises will be performed using locally installed Petrel and Eclipse software; hence client machine must satisfy min. requirements. Alternatively, practical sessions can be accessed through DELFI Cloud Environment (subject to availability).
