This is a Remote Instructor Led Series (RILS) training. The remote classroom delivery is a modality that takes advantage of the instructor led training content, while allowing the same content to be delivered remotely. All training sessions will be delivered online with no face-to-face classroom attendance.
The Petrel Fundamentals - RILS course introduces new users to Petrel functionality with emphasis on visualization, data organization and collaboration.
The course covers basic usage of the application, providing an understanding of how to get started with Petrel. You will learn about Petrel project set-up, data import, visualization, creating simple surfaces and grids and performing basic quality checks. You will also be introduced to the Studio Database and simple tools for retrieving data.
We recommend that users with no prior experience in Petrel complete the Petrel Fundamentals course before taking the Petrel Reservoir Engineering, Petrel Geology, Petrel Geophysics, Petrel Drilling or Petrel Data Management courses.
The course will be delivered over a total of twelve (12) Hours; i.e. in three (3) sessions lasting four (4) Hours each.
Each participant will need the following for an optimal experience of the course:
Session 1 : Modules 1, 2 & 3
(4 Hours)
In this session, participants will be introduced to the Petrel user interface and important project parameters. In addition to understanding the data structure, they will practice how to import and manage data in different formats, how to retrieve data from repository projects and from the Studio database and how to share data. They will also learn data visualization and quality control (QC) techniques.
Day 2Session 2: Modules 4 & 5
(4 Hours)
This second learning session will focus on seismic volume data visualization using various Petrel display windows, on seismic objects display customization and on the workflow for creating and editing various geological maps.
Day 3Session 3: Modules 6, 7 & 8
(4 Hours)
This final session will be dedicated to the basic concepts of 3D structural modeling in Petrel and the Simple grid functionality. The participants will also practice how to configure geometrical modeling methods to create geometrical properties and how to display, filter and QC them. Finally, the participants will learn about the best practices for Plotting in Petrel, including how to optimally use the Map window, how to create montage plots and how to print scaled plots.
Development and Exploration Geologists, Geophysicists, Geochemists, Geoscientists, Petroleum Engineers, Managers, and Technical IT personnel with no prior experience in Petrel software.
General knowledge of petroleum geology and geophysics or reservoir engineering as well as elemental software skills is recommended.
