    Course Objective

    • Rigger and Banksman two-day course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the theory and rating of lifting equipment, an overview of the legislation as applied to the user, and provide an appreciation and practical experience of types of lifting equipment and conducting routine pre-use inspections.
    • Furthermore, the training teaches the operators to safely sling and move loads using the correct equipment. On completion of the course, the operator will know:
    • Their statutory duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
    • The importance of sling angle in relation to safe working load
    • The importance of weight and center of gravity in relation to the safe working load of the lifting tackle
    • Signaling codes for slingers

    Day 1
    Session 1 - Learning from Incidents

    • Introductions
    • Participants’ presentation.
    • Objectives and course contents.
    • Pre-test.
    Session 2 - Current legislation
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the legislation, regulations, and standards governing the use of lifting equipment.
    • Requirements for a Pre-Use Check.
    • Calculate the forces in slings.
    Session 3 - Sling configurations
    • How to do Load Estimation.
    • Different types of Slinging.
    • Different types of lifting accessories.

    Day 2
    Session 4 –4.1. Overview of previous day training
    4.2. Downrating of Lifting Equipment and Hand Signals

    • Continue different types of lifting accessories.
    • How to complete a lift plan.
    • Crane signals in accordance with BS 7121.
    Session 5 - Equipment selection
    • Correct Selection of Lifting Equipment.
    • Complete a Safe Lifting Operation.
    • Case Study.
    Session 6 - Written exam
    Session 7 - Practical assessment


    Those who will need to move loads using various Lifting Equipment as their daily duties level qualifications.

    • Selecting and using chains and chain slings
    • Selecting and using wire rope slings
    • Using 'Safe Working Load' charts
    • Slinging and moving loads
    • Working with cranes
    • Calculating the weights and canters of gravity of loads and taking these factors into account of slinging and moving safely
    • Relevant current legislation relating to lifting and slinging and general site and workshop safety standards
    • Lifting tackle inspection, maintenance, and storage procedures
