This course will focus on teaching participants how to use Symmetry software in order to model different oil and gas processes for design analysis. This software will also assist in evaluating the performance of existing oil and gas facilities, process equipment, and plants. Participants will complete the preliminary process of flow diagrams, mass and energy balance, and equipment sizing based on Symmetry software operations. Participants will also learn how to extend objects that allow custom unit operations, kinetic reactions, and property packages to incorporate into Symmetry simulation. This course will also cover how to build, navigate, and optimize process simulations using Symmetry.
333Initial Evaluation and Course Objectives
On day one, each participant will go through an initial evaluation to enhance their current knowledge. After, the course will move onto the objectives for the next days and the scope that the course will cover. Specific topics that will be discussed on this day include a Symmetry overview and application, components selection, fluid characterization, fluid package and transport properties, and thermodynamic selection. The day will end with participants learning about oil and gas property simulation, along with phase envelope and fluid property calculations.
Day 2Process Flow Diagrams, Customized Reports, and Applications
Day two of this course will cover process flow diagrams in Symmetry, to include unit operations such as separation, heat exchange, pumps, compressors, valves, expanders, and absorption. Material and energy streams, as well as worksheets and graph tools will also be covered on this day. Participants will learn how Symmetry applies to customized reports, extension applications, and oil and gas property applications.
Day 3Simulation Workshop
Day three will focus on workshop simulation practices. Simulations that will be covered on this day will include the most common upstream processes and units like oil, gas, and water separators, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers. The second half of the day will cover simulations on valves, fittings, pipelines, absorption, and distillation columns.
Day 4Simulation Workshop (Cont.)
On day four, participants will continue with the workshop on simulation practices. Simulations that will be covered on this day include oil and gas separation systems, oil pumping and transportation systems, gas compression plant, oil stabilization plant, and NGL extraction by mechanical refrigeration.
Day 5Simulation Workshop (Cont.)
On the last day, participants will take part in several workshops, including NGL fraction plant simulation and case studies for process optimization. The day will end with individual final evaluations and a course evaluation.
Process engineers, mechanical engineers, instrumentation and control engineers, and surface facilities project engineers.
Participants should have some knowledge of the surface facilities production system.
