Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy and Basins - Worldwide Analyses of Combination Traps in the Marine Environment.

This course describes the fluvio-lacustrine, near coast deltaic, outer shelf, slope and deep-water environments of deposition and related sequence stratigraphy. These are linked to seismic records and outcrop exposures. Outcrops exposure are from numerous fieldwork in the Lower Alps (Sisteron and Annot), Pyrennes (Ainsa), Makassar Straitt, Lusitania Basin, plus reservoir stratigraphy of the Atlantic post-salt turbidites and the pre-salt carbonates. In essence, the course is a very complete review of the syn-rift fluvio-lacustrine, transitional and post-rift marine phases in several regions, with exercises in stratigraphic sequences and well-logs correlations.

    Description and analyses of transitional and offshore depositional environments, coastal plain, fluvio-lacustrine, near-coast, deltaic, outer shelf, slope, rise and ocean basin.
  • Geological principles of seismic stratigraphy
  • Focus on deepwater hydrocarbon reservoirs: turbidites (clastics), microbialite (algal carbonates)
  • Seismic sequence analyses and re-construction of litho-stratigraphy and chrono-stratigraphy
  • Analyses of submarine canyons, unconformities, up-dip pinch-outs and channels; Bouma sequences

Learning Objectives: Formation of Salt Basins, Salt Basins Architecture, Mini-Basins, Turtle-Backs, Collapse Structuring, distribution of stratigraphic and structural prospectivity in Salt Basins Worldwide.

Distribution of Basins without Salt, transform margin, southeast asia archipelago regional analyses. Case Studies: Niger Delta and Mahakam Delta
