    Corrosion Monitoring and Inspection

    Upon completion of this course, the Participant will be able to:

    • Describe the benefits of corrosion monitoring, explain types of corrosion encountered in oil, gas and utilities facilities
    • Calculate and evaluate the corrosion rates of coupons using typical field data and corrosion rate formulas
    • calculate and evaluate corrosion rates using typical field data, electrical resistance techniques, and electrochemical linear polarization (ELP) instruments as per the respective product operating manual
    • Interpret data from chemical analysis tests, hydrogen probes/patch probes and sand probes as per appropriate industry procedure
    • Specify appropriate visual inspection techniques, given a Saudi Aramco location requiring visual inspections
    • Determine the appropriate application of nondestructive testing methods performed on facility for Inspection
    Day 1
    • Introduction to Corrosion

     Upon completion of this module, the Participant will be able to describe the benefits of corrosion monitoring, explain types of corrosion encountered in oil, gas and utilities facilities

    • Corrosion Coupons
      • Theory for using corrosion coupons
      • Types of corrosion coupons
      • Handling of coupons
      • Installation and retrieval of a corrosion coupon
      • Evaluation of exposed coupon
      • Corrosion coupon programs

    Upon completion of this module the Participant will be able to calculate and evaluate the corrosion rates of coupons using typical field data and corrosion rate formulas

    Day 2
    •  Electrical & Electrochemical Monitoring  Techniques
      • Electrical resistance operation
      • Microcor corrosion monitoring system  
      • Ceion® corrosion monitoring system
      • Electrochemical linear polarization
      • Electrochemical linear polarization probes 
      • Ac impedance

    Upon completion of this module, the Participant will be able to calculate and evaluate corrosion rates using typical field data, electrical resistance techniques, and electrochemical linear polarization (ELP) instruments as per the respective product operating manual

    Day 3
    • Other Corrosion Monitoring Techniques
      • Chemical analysis
      • Bacterial activity 
      • Hydrogen probes 
      • Sand probes

     Upon completion of this module, the Participant will be able to interpret data from chemical analysis tests, hydrogen probes/patch probes and sand probes as per appropriate industry procedure

    • Visual Inspection Techniques
      • Introduction to visual inspection
      • Inspection tools and their uses

    Upon completion of this module, the Participant will be able to accurately specify appropriate visual inspection techniques, given a Saudi Aramco location requiring visual inspections

    Day 4
    • Non-Destructive Inspection Techniques
      • Conventional non-destructive tests:
      • Nonconventional non-destructive tests
      • Specialized nondestructive tests

     Upon  completion  of  this  Module,  the  Participant  will  be  able  to determine the appropriate application of nondestructive testing methods performed on facility for Inspection.

     

    Day 5
    • Pipelines Inspection Techniques
      • Instrumented scrapers
      • Types of instrumented scrapers
      • Caliper scraper
      • Applications and limitations of instrumented scrapers

     Upon completion of this module, the Participant will be able to select the approved Saudi Aramco pipeline corrosion inspection method, given a task situation.
