    Tool Physics- Standard Logging Tools

This course provides a solid foundation and knowledge of the various logging tools and applications. It demystifies most of the uncertainties regarding logging and the applications and limitations of the various logging tools; it includes 1-2 hours daily of workshop examples.

    Day 1
    • Basics of Logging:
    • Basics of resistivity logging- The Archie Equation
    • Forward Modeling and Inversion
    • The GR log physics- GR spectroscopy and its applications
    Day 2
    • The Spontaneous Potential: The physics of the SP log and its applications.
    • The density and Photoelectric log: Physics and applications to measure porosity and determine lithology.
    • The Neutron Log: its applications to determine porosity- The sigma applications to estimate "n" at downhole conditions.
    • Pulsed Neutron Logging: capture and inelastic modes
    Day 3
    • The applications of the density-neutron log to determine porosity, lithology, shale volume, hydrocarbon trends and shale distribution (dispersed or laminated)
    • Resistivity Measurements: Tool physics of Shallow Rxo, Laterolog and Induction and High Technology resistivity tools. The High Technology Laterolog and Induction logs use for ward modeling to give five resistivity data at different depth of investigations.
    • Cased Hole Formation Resistivity: Theory and applications
    Day 4
    • Wireline Formation Testing
    • WFT Hardware
      • Pretests to estimate mobility
      • Fluid pressure gradient analysis
      • WFT Sampling
      • WFT Optical Spectroscopy to determine Hydrocarbon composition
    • Cased Hole Dynamic Tester: WFT applications in cased hole
    Day 5
    • Overview of High Technology Tools:
      • Dielectric tool and its applications to estimate "m" and "n" at downhole conditions.
      • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
      • Borehole Gravity Meter
      • Borehole resistivity imaging and borehole ultrasonic imaging

This course will be suitable for all those new to the oil and gas industry.

    • The GR log physics- GR spectroscopy and its applications for geological modeling, estimations of Vsh and determining the type of clay (e.g elite, smectite, etc..)
