    Positive Displacement Pumps

This course will provide participants with the knowledge needed to understand and enhance their mechanical aptitude in the area of positive displacement pumps.

The purpose of this course will be to develop a working knowledge of the different types of positive displacement pumps, as well as the different procedures associated with operation and installation of positive displacement pumps. With the completion of this course the participants will be equipped with the basic knowledge required to install and repair these pumps.

Technicians are required to have a technical comprehension of pumps, an understanding of the different types and application or type of pump to use.  The technicians that participate in this course will be better equipped to repair, maintain, install, and commission pumps and their related systems, while increasing the knowledge within their maintenance team.  This, in turn, will promote the safe and efficient productivity of the systems.  With further on-job training and experience the technicians will be able to attend more advanced training and therefore enhancing the maintenance team’s capabilities and knowledge.

    Day 1

    Identification

    • Types of pumps, components, and construction
    • Hazards and safe work practices
    • Tools and equipment
    • Removal and install procedures

On the first day, participants will learn about the different types of pumps, their components, and construction.  Identify hazards and describing safe working practices will be covered, along with the different types of procedures and tools used in the removal and installation of positive displacement pumps.  The tools and equipment used to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pumps will also be discussed.

    Day 2

    Maintenance and Diagnostics

    • Inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures
    • Repair or replacement considerations
    • Commission procedures

The focus of the last day will be the maintenance and diagnostics for positive displacement pumps.  Participants will learn about the inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.  The considerations for pump repair or replacement will also be covered.  The day will end with participants learning about the procedures used to commission positive displacement pumps.

This course is mainly targeted to mechanical technicians working in the field as an introduction or refresher. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment purchasing, procurement, storage, and job planning, as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.

Participants for this course should have completed some form of technical or mechanical awareness training.
