    Fire Water Systems

Participants of this course will learn the most effective techniques to protect employees, property, and the environment by eliminating fire hazards.   In case a fire occurs, technicians need to be able to take immediate steps to control it and prevent it from spreading.  The purpose of this course will be to develop a working knowledge, in participants, of how fire prevention and control is achieved by combining engineering, work practice, and administrative controls.

Fire water systems provide an adequate water supply for firefighting, vessel, and structural cooling in the event of a fire within the plant.  Participants will gain a good understanding of the fire water system and other associated extinguishing systems that must all work simultaneously to deal with industrial fire situations.

This course provides the basic knowledge for the safe operation, maintenance, and management of equipment associated firefighting systems. The course emphasizes the extreme importance of these systems on the safe and efficient operation of the entire plant and compliance requirements.

    Day 1

    Industrial Fire Fighting Systems

    • Fire water supply
    • Active and passive systems
    • Flow diagram
    • Fire water supply, equipment and components

Participants of this course will gain an understanding of industrial fire water systems layout and components in order to comprehend the operation and maintenance of the equipment associated with these systems.  The types of fire water pumps and their specific configurations, operation, and applications will be reviewed.  Compliance issues associated with fire water systems will also be covered.

    Day 2

Foam, Sprinkler, Carbon Dioxide, and Deluge Systems

    • Foam types, concentrations, properties, and comparisons
    • Wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems
    • Advantages and application of carbon dioxide systems
    • Types and applications of deluge systems

Day two of the course will focus on the specifics of industrial fire water systems relative to safe operation and maintenance.  Specific compliance issues associated with these systems will also be covered.  Health, safety, and environmental issues associated with the systems will be discussed with particular emphasis on process and personal safety requirements.

This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologist, and safety personnel. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning, and immediate supervisors to working technicians.

Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
