Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide the participants with the knowledge necessary to understand and enhance their mechanical aptitude of compressors.
The purpose of this course will be to develop a working knowledge of the various types of rotating and reciprocating equipment, as well as the different procedures and regulations associated with operation and installation of this equipment. With the completion of this course the participants will be equipped with the basic knowledge required to install and repair non-positive displacement (dynamic) compressors and their related systems.
Technicians will be required to have an understanding of compressors, as well as the related systems and applications. The technicians that participate in this course will be better equipped to repair, maintain, install, and commission dynamic compressors and the associated systems within their responsibilities. This training will increase their knowledge, within the maintenance team, therefore increasing the safe and efficient productivity of the mechanical systems. With further on-job training and experience the technicians will be able to attend more advanced training in this area and enhance the maintenance team’s capabilities and knowledge.
Identification
The first day will cover the types of dynamic compressors used in the petroleum industry, this including centrifugal and axial compressors. The day will move onto defining terminology associated with dynamic compressors. Participants will learn about identifying hazards, describing safe work practices, compressor components, and compressor applications and operations.
Day 2
Maintenance and Diagnostics
On day two, the focus will be around maintenance and diagnostics of different compressors. Participants will learn about repairing reciprocating compressors, procedures used for troubleshooting, and learning if repairing or replacing will be required. Procedures used to remove, install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and commission dynamic compressors will also be covered.
This course is mainly targeted to mechanical technicians working in the field as an introduction or refresher. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment purchasing, procurement, storage, and job planning, as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
This course will follow the completion of the Non-Positive Displacement (Dynamic) Pumps course. Dynamic pumps is not necessary, but recommended as the theory of pumps relates to compressors.
