Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course provides a comprehensive overview of hydrocarbon fluid behavior, from the initial steps of fluid sampling and laboratory analysis to fluid modeling and reservoir simulation. It focuses on understanding how hydrocarbons behave under varying temperature and pressure conditions, especially when fluids consist of multiple components with complex phase and compositional changes.
Participants will learn the principles of compositional simulation, which uses an equation of state (EOS) to model fluid phase behavior in reservoirs. This approach is essential for applications such as simulating miscible flooding, understanding compositional changes with depth, and predicting condensate dropout. Additionally, knowledge of fluid behavior is critical for designing and optimizing surface production facilities.
To enhance practical skills, the course integrates hands-on training with industry-standard software tools. These include Intersect for reservoir simulation and FluidModeler for PVT modeling and EOS analysis. By working with these tools, participants will gain valuable experience in solving real-world challenges in reservoir engineering.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to apply compositional modeling techniques to improve recovery predictions, optimize reservoir performance, and design efficient production systems.
