Data Solutions with Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) - Bootcamp

The Data Solutions with Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) - Bootcamp is an instructor-led,  4-day course that guides participants through a hands-on example to develop production-ready solutions with Cognite Data Fusion. While it is possible to grant access and ingest, transform, and contextualize data manually in CDF through the User Interface, creating a proper Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline that allows the development team to promote the project through different environments is essential in creating a production-ready solution.  

The Bootcamp has been developed by CDF and DataOps experts and aims to share the knowledge with the community. It follows DataOps principles to ensure that each step is repeatable and produces trustworthy data products.  With the introduction of the CDF Toolkit, it is now possible to replace different types of Command Line Interface (CLI) with one command-line tool to configure and administer CDF projects. The toolkit also includes pre-built templates to help you quickly start your CDF project. 

The following topics will be covered in the bootcamp:

  • Data Foundation:  Learn about the data, the data sources and the use case for the bootcamp. Start setting up your CDF projects by creating the Azure Service Principal for your test and prod projects. Set up the CDF Toolkit and work on the CDF Toolkit modules to configure the environment config file, followed by the data foundation module for setting up the CDF groups and access,

  • Data Integration: Learn about Cognite Functions and extraction pipelines. Deploy three extraction pipelines using the CDF Toolkit to get data into Cognite Data Fusion and how to frontfill and backfill data. Then, Cognite Functions will be used to call and schedule functions. Then, move on to DevOps with GitHub Actions,

  • Data Modeling:  There are many ways of modeling data. In the bootcamp, you will have to model the data one specific way, but we will highlight and discuss other possibilities. Using CDF Transformations, we will transform data from staging to build an asset hierarchy. The rest of the transformations will be deployed using the CDF Toolkit. Then again, DevOps with GitHub Actions for the prod project. At the end of this chapter, we visit the use case again and look at the calculations that need to be created to solve the use case. By using the Toolkit, we deploy the functions for the use case, 

  • Data Orchestration: Learn about Data Workflows and how they can be used to execute interdependent processes.  Create a workflow, deploy it, and deploy it with GitHub actions,

  • Industrial tools: Visualize and validate and data ingested, transformed, and contextualized in Cognite Charts.  Other tools, like Industrial Canvas, and Grafana, will be used to solve the use case.

This bootcamp is intended for users who are interested in implementing Cognite Data Fusion.  Nevertheless, anyone who would like to explore and learn how to use the industrial DataOps platform product to analyze/contextualize and manage data can really benefit from the training. 

Participants need to complete the Bootcamp Prerequisites before they attend the bootcamp.  

  • Completion of the prerequisites on Cognite Academy, 

  • Submit the completed GitHub repository and Grafana dashboard, 

  • Submit the post-bootcamp exercise.
