    Helicopter Under water Escape Training (HUET)

    Course description

    • The course is designed to provide personnel who travel by helicopter with an understanding of helicopter escape procedures, in particular, action to be taken to evacuate or escape from a ditched/ capsized/ submerged helicopter.
    Activities
    • Classroom - Listening and contributing to discussions and exercises (group Discussions and workshops)
    • Practical training 
    Objectives
    • The HUET training aims to increase time-saving awareness of situational characteristics that can prevent successful escape, such as the role of the seat belt to control excess buoyancy caused by the safety suits inside the helicopter, and how to carefully store away excess seat belt length.
    • Demonstrate, in a simulated environment how to use various tools, and equipment for their own safety 
    • Follow procedures in preparing for, and during helicopter emergencies – with a particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following a partially merged or fully underwater emergency situation

    • Pre-flight preparations
    • The procedures and requirements for pre-boarding, safe boarding, in-flight and safe disembarkation. Informing the crew of suspected or observed helicopter emergencies
    • Board the helicopter
    • Safety in the Aircraft
    • Prepare for helicopter ditching
    • Undertake evacuation from the helicopter
    • Facilitate recovery process
    • Control hazards
    • Risks of water flight
    • Break
    • Emergency procedures and helicopter emergencies
    • Use of life jackets and inflatable raft
    • Actions in preparation for a helicopter ditching and emergency landing including a brace 
    • positions for the range of seating locations and harness types
    • Practical exercises for water landing and escape from the submerged aircraft
    • Water Exercise inside Helicopter simulator
    • Certificate distribution to successful learners

    • Anyone involved in the process of investigating incidents and accidents.
