    Introduction to Greenhouse Gasses (GHG) & Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)

    Course Objective

    • A course that provides an introduction to GHG from a sustainability and governance point of view, concentrating on CCUS technologies and projects for the O&G industry.

    • Continuous learning assessment: pre-class, daily and final tests. 
    • Best Practices: Discussion groups, teamwork, and individual action plans. 
    The following points shall be discussed in the course:
    • Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies.
    • CCUS technologies to meet our needs in the field.
    • The process to implement a CCUS project. 
    • Risk Management: Pros and cons of the different CCUS technologies.

    Module I - Introduction to Global Warming & Sustainability

    • Introduction to the course
    • Pre-class Test.
    • Governance: international agreements, legislation, and protocols.
    • Time Line of Global Climate Agreements (GCAs): Successes and Failures.
      • GCAs: Montreal 1987, UNFCCC 1992, Kioto 2005, Paris 2015, COPs 1995-2022.
      • GHG Protocol: CO2, CH4, N2O, HFC, PFC y SF6.
      • Net Zero CO2 Emissions by 2050 – A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector.
    • International Standards: ISO 14064 Part 1, 2 & 3 (GHG) 
    • Terms and Definitions from  GCAs, ISO, and GHG Protocol.
    • Examples of GHG management in the O&G Industry.
    • Practical: Workshops, Discussion Groups, Personal Action Plan.
    • Summary of Day 1.
    • Day 1 Test.

    CCUS Technologies

    • Review of Day 1
    • Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) and  Carbon Capture Storage (CCS).
    • Technologies:
      • Carbon Capture.
      • Carbon Utilization.
      • Carbon Storage.
    • Risk Management: Pros and Cons of the CCUS technologies.
    • Examples of CCUS technologies in the O&G Industry.
    • Practical: Workshops, Discussion Groups, Personal Action Plan.
    • Summary of Day 2.
    • Day 2 Test.


    CCSU Projects.

    • Review of Day 2.
    • Assessing the current situation before implementing a CCUS Project. 
    • Project Management process applied to CCUS Project.
    • Examples of  CCUS projects in the O&G Industry.
    • Practical: Workshops, Discussion Groups, Personal Action Plan
    • Summary of Day 3.
    • Course Conclusions.
    • Final Test.
