Introduction to HAZOP and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

Level: Foundation | Type: Classroom | Discipline: Surface Facilities Engineering

This foundation course builds a practical understanding of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) within oil & gas production processing systems and develops the skills to plan and conduct Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies. Participants compare mainstream PHA methods—with emphasis on HAZOP and What-If/Checklist techniques—and learn how to structure and run a study from scoping and node selection through guide-word application, documentation, and action tracking. Human factors are woven throughout, including recognition of error-likely situations and mitigation approaches, before culminating in a capstone simulated HAZOP / What-If workshop.
