    Sea Survival

    Course description
    • The aim of this course is to provide offshore personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for themselves and others in sea survival situations for an indefinite period. This course will assist learners to build confidence and improve moral and prepare them on what needs to be done in case of emergency at offshore sites and to participate to the maximum extent in their own survival and rescue.

    Objectives
    • It is a well-proven fact that in the event of an emergency at sea, people who have received formal practical training are more likely to survive. This course covers preparation for survival, use of lifejackets, search and rescue, and a practical session in a swimming pool with a liferaft

    • Principles of survival 
    • Techniques to increase chances of personnel survival 
    • What is hypothermia? signs, symptoms, and treatment 
    • Sunburn, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke symptoms and method of treatment 
    • Survival routines to aid location 
    • Pyrotechnics and right safe use for survival and other location aids 
    • Water rationing – procedures, dehydration, and preventative measures 
    • Food rationing and sources of food 
    • Survival craft ailments 
    • Life Raft management 
    • Search and rescue
