    Skip Truck - Driver/ Operator

    Course Description

    • A vehicle-mounted skip loader is a system built onto a road vehicle and is designed to pick up a waste skip from the rear of the vehicle at ground level, to place it on the vehicle’s carrying chassis to transport it over distance and to deliver it to a location.
    • It is also be designed to discharge the contents of the container by tipping as necessary.
    • The system is powered by hydraulics generated by a pump from the vehicle’s engine through a power take-off.
    • The skip is designed to be lifted by chains attached to a hydraulically operated structure carrying chains attached to the skip.
    • Skips are generally used for bulk refuse, builders’ waste, etc.
    • This vehicle mounted skip loader course is designed to train the operator in operating the equipment only. It is not designed to train the operator to drive or maneuver the vehicle, nor is it in any way designed to meet the standards of the LGV Driving Test.
    Course objectives:
    • Let the participants be familiar with skip truck driving requirements and competencies.
    • Skip truck defensive driving for drivers that makes them aware of the driving rules, standard driving practices, and the required driving mechanics.
    • Its main objective is to reduce the risk of driving skip trucks by anticipating hazardous situations, adverse conditions, or the driving errors of others.
    • Adherence to Road Traffic Regulations are the first step, but what is more important for skip truck defensive driving is anticipating the wrong moves, tendencies to commit mistakes, and acts of over-adventure by motorists and promptly taking defensive measures. This comes with a lot of practice and driving wisdom
