VILT - Simulation Performance and Model Quality Control using Petrel

Simulation Performance and Model Quality Check is a virtual instructor-led training (VILT) course delivered in real time. The course is presented in one 4-hour session. It is delivered using the WebEx platform. The course content incorporates passive and active learning approaches. The result is an unrivaled virtual training experience.

This course discusses the skills and techniques required to understand simulation performance. It also teaches the skills needed to perform model quality checks in Eclipse* and INTERSECT* using Petrel* Reservoir Engineering workflow tools.

The course provides you with the knowledge and software skills necessary to understand the convergence in the context of reservoir simulation, read and interpret convergence-related output from simulation runs, identify data issues from simulation runs, and perform input data corrections and numerical tuning.

The course contains lessons and exercises that help you practice the strategies presented in the training.

    You will learn how to:

    • understand convergence in a reservoir simulator
    • identify and analyze output data in the context of simulation performance
    • perform model quality checks to improve overall model quality

To effectively participate in the training, you must have the following hardware, software, and connectivity:

    • Computer
    • USB headset
    • Video capabilities (720HD)
    • Microsoft Office

    Internet access

Reservoir engineers involved in reservoir appraisal and field development projects

E&P professionals who are interested in learning how to perform quality checks and improve overall quality of numerical simulation studies

The training includes these primary topics:

    • Definition of convergence
    • Simulator output
    • Identification of data problems
    • Simulator tuning

    (Optional) Parallel processing

To successfully complete this course, you must have a working knowledge of numerical reservoir simulation using Eclipse Blackoil software or the equivalent. You also must know the basic operations of the Petrel Reservoir Engineering platform.
