Agenda
Day 1
Cooling Water System Overview
- Flow diagram and P&ID’s
- Cooling System components and equipment
- Operation and maintenance
Participants will gain an understanding of industrial cooling water processes including cooling tower types, pumps, and associated equipment with particular attention paid to performance and effective operation. The discussions on this day will include start-up, shut down, normal, and emergency operation and maintenance issues associated with cooling water systems. Particular attention will be given to process safety management systems, as well as environmental compliance and concerns.
Day 2
Cooling Water Treatment
- Cooling water properties
- Monitoring and control
- Problems and solutions
Day two will focus on providing participants with an understanding of industrial cooling water treatment including chemical injection systems, monitoring systems, and methodologies. Cycles of concentration and the importance of cooling water losses and blow down effects will be discussed. Participants will have an opportunity to look at problems and corrective actions associated with chemical and biological fouling, deposition, and corrosion associated with poor quality cooling water.
Day 3
Platform Cooling Water Treatment
- Flow diagram and P&ID’s
- Glycol and seawater cooling
- Safe operation and maintenance of components and equipment
Participants will gain an understanding of oil and gas platform cooling water systems including system types, pumps, and associated equipment. Particular attention will be given to performance and effective operations on day three. Overall operating, maintenance, and safety procedures for platform cooling systems operations will be reviewed, while stressing employee safety and environmental compliance.
Audience
This course is mainly targeted to process operators, process technologists, and laboratory and maintenance personnel. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning, and immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
Prerequisites
Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
