    Gas Metering System

This course has been designed to cover the basics of physical and chemical makeup of gas mixtures and how the mixtures are affected by temperature and pressure.   The fundamentals of volume determination devices operation, calibration and maintenance will also be reviewed.

The term "fiscal metering" is often interchanged with custody transfer, and refers to metering that is a point of a commercial transaction such as when a change in ownership takes place.  Custody transfer will be explained as it takes place any time fluids are passed from the possession of one party to another.  Participants will also gain an understanding of Remote gas well sites require local flow metering of the mineral reserve's gas flow rate for asset and revenue accounting purposes.

Upon completion of the course participants will have gained an understanding of operating a custody transfer systems for natural gas.  An understanding of the principles of how to operate custody transfer stations so as to minimize systematic errors and ensure accuracy will also be obtained.

    Day 1

    Custody Transfer Requirements

    • Industry and regulatory standards and gas acceptability criteria
    • Contractual agreements between custody transfer parties
    • Metering methods and equipment

On day one, participants will have gained an overall appreciation for gas metering requirements, regulatory and acceptance criteria and its importance as found in today’s gas industry.  Metering methodologies and associated components will also be reviewed.

    Day 2

    Components, Accuracy, and Custody Transfer

    • System flow diagram and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s)
    • Metering skids. measurement and sampling systems
    • Systemic error, bias and uncertainty

On day two, participants will gain an understanding of gas metering operations, types of systems, and importance with respect to gas production quality and control.  Accuracy, safety and attention to detail will be stressed with the duties of the process technician associated with these duties.

This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists, instrumentation personnel, and safety and maintenance personnel.   The course can also be applicable to employees working with purchasing, job planning as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.

Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
