Resources and Reserves Evaluation - Overview

This two-day workshop presents various reserves estimating methodologies, including the difference between resources and reserves.  The workshop will also cover the classifications and definitions of reserves and resources and guidelines for applications of these definitions.  SPE-WPC-AAPG, SEC, and other regulatory authorities’ guidelines will be discussed.  The workshop will provide G&G and reservoir engineers with the newest and most accurate methods for obtaining values of reserves.  Following completion of this workshop, all participants should be able to manage deterministic and probabilistic methods.  Participants will also gain a thorough understanding of various reserves levels and their equivalence in both systems, in terms of proved, proved plus probable, and proved plus probable plus possible.

    Day 1

    Classification System and Reporting Requirements

    • PRMS resources classification system
    • U.S. SEC reserves reporting requirements
    • Deterministic reserves estimation procedures
    • Examples, class problems, case studies

On the first day, participants will learn about the PRMS resource classification system, as well as the U.S. SEC reserves reporting requirements.  The day will also cover the deterministic reserves estimation procedure.

    Day 2

    Reserves Estimations

    • Probabilistic reserves estimation procedures
    • Reserves aggregation
    • Reserves estimation in unconventional resources
    • Examples, class problems, case studies

The last day of the workshop will focus on probabilistic reserves estimation procedures, reserves aggregation, and reserves estimation in unconventional resources.
