Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course presents wellbore plug and abandonment (P&A) and well decommissioning concepts, including why and how wells are temporarily suspended and permanently removed from service. Participants learn about basic principles of well integrity, well barrier element (WBE) installation, and WBE verification and acceptance criteria. In addition to Oil and Gas industry guidelines and standards, legislation by various countries, including resulting laws and governmental regulations, are reviewed. Service-company and operator recommended practices are covered, compared and contrasted. The latest P&A technologies, tools, techniques, methods and procedures are discussed and demonstrated through case-history examples.
Objective: Basic understanding of short- and long-term well integrity, and well-abandonment concepts and terms.
Objective: Review primary-cementing objectives; types of well completions; preventing gas migration; and fishing.
Day 3
Objective: Present latest technologies, tools, techniques, methods and procedures for permanently plugging wells.
Objective: Understand remedial squeeze cementing and cement-plug placement as permanent well-barrier elements.
Objective: Review, discuss and contrast world-wide well-abandonment considerations.
Government Regulators; Drilling and Completion Engineers and Technicians; Superintendents, Wellsite Supervisors, and Inspectors. Any person, who designs, plans or manages well drilling, wellbore completion and field operations activities will benefit from this course.
Regulations, standards and recommended practices for plug and abandoment of wells and offshore platforms, concepts of well integrity, well barrier elements, gas migration, cement as a barrier, cutting/severing tools, cement evaluation techniques, secondary cementing, and best practices for plug and abandonment. When held at locations which are accessible to SLB technology centers visits are incorporated into the class.
General math and science skills; Basic to intermediate understanding of oil-and-gas well drilling and cementing operations; wellbore casing and tubular components; well-completion design and installation.
