Develop measurable skills and capabilities
The focus of this course is the application of common PetroMod* petroleum systems modeling tools, techniques and workflows. This workshop is a core component in the PetroMod Education Services offering. Students will spend the week working on a 3D dataset and upon successful completion of this course will be able to build Petroleum Systems models independently in area of simple to moderate geological complexity
Delivered in a workshop style, the course combines lectures on key aspects of petroleum systems modeling with an intensive series of exercises on the course dataset. These workflows are the ones that practicing professionals use on every project, emphasizing model calibration and analysis of simulation results. Major focus is on “personalizing” PetroMod models. Lithologies (e.g., mechanical compaction behavior, permeability) will be adapted to measured conditions (porosity, pressure calibration data), requiring extensive use of PetroMod Editors and reporting tools. Thermal calibration tools will be introduced and used to adapt the model to specific data from the basin/field/wells. Migration modeling will be examined in detail, and the results will be calibrated to measured fluid properties and known accumulations.
Module 1: PetroMod Project Data
Module 2: Pressure Calibration
Day 2
Module 2: Pressure Calibration (cont.)
Module 3: Thermal Calibration (crustal heat flow, intrusion)
Day 3
Module 3: Thermal Calibration (crustal heat flow, intrusion) (cont.)
Module 4: Migration Modeling
Day 4
Module 4: Migration Modeling (cont.)
Module 5: Fluid Calibration
Day 5
Module 5: Fluid Calibration (cont.)
Module 6: Further Output Analysis and Interpretation
This is a skill level course that teaches you the workflows you will apply in every petroleum systems modeling project. The workshop uses one 3D dataset for the entire week. You will analyze the results of your model simulation runs and learn how to adapt your model to fit measured data including porosity, pressure, temperature, geochemical information and hydrocarbon fluid properties. The end result will be a model that is fully calibrated thermally, for porosity and pressure and that also matches existing fluid accumulations.
