Practical Flow Assurance Using Transient OLGA Simulation

    This course:

    • Introduce key impediments to flow, including slugging and precipitation of organic and inorganic solids, with examples from various challenging environments.
    • Review technologies for capturing fluid samples and characterizing their PVT properties; Define current measurement and modeling approaches for characterizing production-chemistry impediments, such as asphaltenes, paraffin waxes, hydrates and inorganic scales.
    • Basic multiphase production hydraulics and thermal issues; Introduction to OLGA topology and basic assumptions; Introduction and demonstration of a leading fluid modelling software. Terrain slugging mitigation, hydrodynamic slugging and OLGA Slugtracking;
    • Shut-in, cool-down, start-up and depressurization of a well-flowline-riser configuration; Demonstrate building a simulation model with minimum information; Gas condensate pipeline-modeling - characteristic steady state behavior, pigging, turndown, ramp-up, three-phase flow.
    • Demonstrate the value of a systematic and holistic integrated flow assurance program for production systems and operations, using case studies from various field locations around the globe
    Day 1

    Introduction and PVT Characterization

In day one, the course will cover the definition and identification methodologies of key flow impediments like fluid PVT characteristics, asphaltenes, waxes, hydrates, scales, naphthanates, emulsions, corrosions, erosions and sands in various challenging environment. The participants will then be exposed to technologies in capturing representative fluid samples

    Day 2

    Laboratory Solids Characterization

In day two, the course will cover current measurement methodologies of reservoir fluid compositions and PVT and po-tential production impediments like solid asphaltenes, paraffin waxes, hydrates and inorganic scales

    Day 3

Integration Concepts and Field Example of Management Approaches

In day three, participants will be exposed to fluid flow and heat transfer concepts and their relationship in precipitation of organic and inorganic solids. Consequently, the course will demonstrate the value of a systematic and holistic flow assurance integrated program for production systems and operations, using case studies from various field locations around the globe

    Day 4

    Multiphase Flow Modeling

In day four, participants will be exposed to in-depth multiphase production hydraulics and thermal issues; they will be introduced to OLGA topology and basic assumptions. They will then be exposed to leading fluid modelling software with terrain slugging mitigation, hydrodynamic slugging and OLGA Slugtracking

    Day 5

    Transient Simulation and Field Examples

In day five, the course will cover more in-depth shut-in, cool-down, start-up and depressurization of a well-flowline-riser configuration; then they will be exposed to building a simulation model with minimum information; Finally, develop gas condensate pipeline-modeling - characteristic steady state behavior, pigging, turndown, ramp-up, three-phase flow.

This course is intended for engineers and chemists in the upstream and downstream segments of the petroleum industry. This course will also provide department, asset and technology managers with an appreciation of the risks, challenges and solutions for free flowing hydrocarbon product
