    RILS Improving Leadership and Communication skills for Existing Managers

    A foundation level course broadening the understanding of the necessary leadership skills and traits to enable managers to be effective in managing and leading their teams.  It looks at the personal style of leaders and the importance in understanding individual team members as well as the team as a whole.

    It  looks at how effective communication styles and methods impact the efficiency and motivation of teams; and how a leader's communication style should be adaptable to its audience and how communication styles can influence others.


    To review personality assessments and determine areas for self-development

    To determine the communication and leadership styles of the attendees

    To complete a diagnosis of leadership styles including Situational Leadership

    To understand the nature of negotiation and basic techniques for successful and ethical negotiations

    To consider how a manager can develop and energize their teams by assessing the needs of your people and the opportunities available

    To know how to provide effective feedback and handle difficult conversations

    To assess different conflict management strategies

    To review Coaching methodology and understand the relationship between leadership and coaches

    To understand how to proactively manage business transitions

    To review approaches to overcoming resistance to change, including managing individuals’ responses

    Existing managers or technical persons looking to greatly improve their leadership and management skills.
