Sustainability & Circular Economy in the Energy transition

Level: Foundation | Type: Classroom | Discipline: Clean Technologies

The energy transition (understanding the energy transition as the variation in primary energy sources) is due to various motivations depending on the priorities, needs or strategic vision in a specific country or region, which may be linked to Economic Growth, Climate Change, Health and Environment, Access to Energy, Security and/or Energy Sovereignty or a combination of the above

Although in most cases the energy transition considers greater use of renewable energies, hydrocarbons and mining play an important role in this transition, in this sense the UN published the report “Extractive Industries Transition to Sustainable Systems” seeks to establish a new paradigm to transform extractive industries towards sustainable development that considers satisfies the needs and expectations of society, governments and investors, in this sense these 2 proposed courses offer a perspective for design and analysis of the strategies for the energy transition as well as for the design and implementation of a sustainable roadmap through the methodologies (United Nations Framework Classification-UNFC)1 and United Nations Resources Management System-UNRMS)2, both recognized by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSO)3 that allow traceability of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ESG factors in energy and extractive industry projects mainly.

This course is taught jointly with SLB-NExT and the International Center of Excellence on Sustainable Resources Management (ICE-SRM) of the UN-UNECE for Latin America, at the end of each course an additional certificate from UN -UNECE Office will be given to the participants.
