    Petrel Fundamentals equips you with a foundational understanding of Petrel, including how to get started, set up a project, apply processes, and plot your results in an integrated and collaborative approach. You learn how to import and visualize data, create maps/surfaces, generate simple 3D models/grids and perform basic quality checks.

    The exercises and challenges provide hands-on experience that allow you to effectively practice as you learn and retain the knowledge.



    Day 1

    Modules 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

    • Data Visualization and QC
    • Seismic reconnaissance

    In this first session, you are introduced to the Petrel user interface, project setup process and important project parameters. In addition to understanding the data structure, you practice how to import and manage data in different formats, how to retrieve data from repository projects and from the Studio database and how to share data with your peers. You also learn about data visualization and quality control (QC) techniques.

    Day 2

    Modules 6, 7 & 8

    • Polygons and surfaces 
    • Introduction to 3D modeling in Petrel
    • Plots


    In addition to the workflow for creating and editing various geological maps, this second training day is dedicated to the basic concepts of 3D Structural modeling in Petrel and the Simple grid functionality. You also explore basic Property modeling with the Geometrical modeling process and practice how to display, filter and QC 3D models data. Finally, you learn about the best practices for Plotting in Petrel, including how to enhance your Map window displays, how to create montage plots and how to print scaled plots.

    Development and Exploration Geologists, Geophysicists, Geochemists, Geoscientists, Petroleum Engineers, Managers, and Technical IT personnel with no prior experience with Petrel.

    General knowledge of petroleum geology and geophysics or reservoir engineering as well as elemental software skills is recommended

    The Petrel Fundamentals course is highly recommended for any participant with no prior experience in Petrel, prior to any higher-level courses such as Petrel Geological Interpretation, Petrel Geophysical Interpretation,  Petrel Structural Modeling: Structural Framework Workflows, Petrel Structural Modeling: Corner Point Gridding Workflow, Petrel Property Modeling, Petrel Well Design, Petrel Reservoir Engineering.
