Analysis and Development of Tight Gas Reservoirs

This course will provide participants with an overview of the analysis and development of tight gas reservoirs.  This course will cover the evaluation, completion, stimulation, along with the development of tight gas reservoirs.  Other topics that will be discussed include geologic characteristics, formation evaluation (log and core analysis, in-situ stress tests, and welltests), estimating reserves and well performance, hydraulic fracture treatment design and execution, and field development considerations.

    Day 1

    Tight Gas and Completion Methods

    • Introduction to tight gas
    • Completion methods

Day one of the course will start out with a basic introduction to tight gas reservoirs to include a discussion on resource distribution, history of development, reservoir considerations, and geologic characteristics.  The day will continue with a discussion on of completion methods for reservoirs.

    Day 2

    Formation Evaluation I

    • Formation evaluation I
    • Statistical correlations

On this day, participants will learn about formation evaluation, specifically looking at the reservoir quality.  Statistical correlations will also be covered.

    Day 3

    Formation Evaluation II

    • Formation evaluation II – rock mechanics
    • Developing data sets
    • Hydraulic fracturing fundamentals

Participants will learn, on the third day, more about formation evaluation in regards to rock mechanisms.  Developing data sets and hydraulic fracturing fundamentals will also be discussed.

    Day 4

    Reservoirs and Evaluation

    • Post-fracture evaluation
    • Completion and stimulation of coal bed methane
    • Tight gas sands
    • Unconventional reservoirs

On this day, participants will learn about post-fracture evaluation and the completion and simulation of coal bed methane.  A discussion on tight gas sand reserves and unconventional reservoirs will also happen on this day.

    Day 5

    Types of Analyses

    • Conventional decline curve analysis
    • Advanced decline curve analysis
    • Analytical simulation
    • Moving domain analysis
    • Production data analysis

The last day of the course will focus on the different types of analyses used with tight gas reservoirs.  These types of analyses will include conventional decline curve and advanced decline curve.  Participants will also be introduced to analytical simulation.  The day will end with a discussion on moving domain and production data analyses.
