Applied Formation Evaluation Blended With Techlog - RILS

Applied Formation Evaluation blended with Techlog is a remote delivered course that covers deterministic log analysis blended with hands-on exercises, Excel and Techlog.  The course is remotely delivered in 10 sessions that are 4 hours in duration or can be delivered with traditional instructor training in 5 days.  The first 60 percent of the course focuses on traditional log analysis blended with Techlog.  The last 40 percent of the course focuses on determining petrophysical rock types using blended with Techlog (SCAL-DRT).  Additionally, the IPSOM, HRA and SHM modules will be highlighted in the final segment of the course.

    During the course the  participants will work on triple combo data set  and core data in a continuous interactive learning process;

    - from lectures (data interpretation techniques and a quick overview of logging tool principles).

    - practical exercises where properties are determined by hand, Excel and in Techlog (Quanti, SCAL) maximizing the use of the software by applying all the available options.

This course can be delivered as either a public offering or customized for private offerings.  The materials and content of this course were updated in August of 2020.

    Day 1

    Day 1 - (RILS Segments 1 & 2)

    1. Pre-Course Technical Assessment
    2. Course introduction
    3. Expectations of the participants
    4. SP and GR Theory
    5. How to calculate VSH and clay type using SP and GR. Results are compared and discussed
    6. Multi-well data analysis and preparation using Techlog tools

Participants will analyze SP and GR data to determine VSH (hands-on and with Techlog) and apply Techlog tools to determine needs for data normalization

    Day 2

    Day 2 - (RILS - Segments 3 and 4) - VSH and Total Porosity Calculations using Density-Neutron.

    1. Review results from previous day
    2. Density measurement and porosity calculation
    3. Neutron measurement and porosity analysis
    4. Density/Neutron combination to calculate VSH and Porosity
    5. Introduction to core data

Participants will analyze and use Density and Neutron data to determine VSH and Porosity (manually and using Techlog).

    Day 3

Day 3 - (RILS Segment 5 & 6) - Effective Porosity Calculation and Water Saturation.

    1. Review results from previous day
    2. Compare VSH Results from Density-Neutron vs. SP and GR. Discuss and conciliate results
    3. Effective porosity determination and calculation.  Correction for VSH and Hydrocarbon effects
    4. Introduction to Resistivity measurements and Rt, Ro, Rxo and Rw definitions.
    5. Saturation calculations

Participants will compare and conciliate the different results for VSH to determine the final VSH, calculate effective porosity (manually and with Techlog) and learn about Resistivity measurements. Integration with core measurements.
