Discovering Petroleum Geology Through Immersive Virtual Field Trip

The 5-days course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the techniques and workflows utilized by geologists involved in exploration and field development projects. The course emphasizes the integration of various geologic data sources to create a detailed understanding of a reservoir's three-dimensional geometry. By the end of the program, attendees will have gained valuable insights into reservoir characterization tools and techniques, enabling them to effectively analyze and interpret the integrated data to make informed decisions during exploration and development processes. This course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute significantly to the successful management of petroleum resources in the energy industry.

The last day will be dedicated to virtual reality field trips. Participants will have the opportunity to work on outcrops, digitized in 3 dimensions. They will also be able to apply the techniques and concepts seen during the class and grasp scale effects, from microscopic to kilometric scales. The Virtual field trip will be carried out using Stratbox, a 3D visualisation and collaboration platform allowing annotation and interpretation within a 3D image model. Stratbox is a proprietary software developed by Imaged Reality (https://www.imagedreality.com/ ).
