    First Aid/CPR/AED Level 3

    About the course

    • Advanced First Aid/CPR/AED is designed for the person who needs or desires more first aid training than Basic First Aid, but not to the level of Emergency Medical Response.
    • Perfect for corporate emergency response teams, this 17-21 hour course presents many of the most common illnesses and injuries responders are likely to encounter.
    Course Assessment
    • Students are evaluated through Instructor observation of the reasonable performance of skills. Performance and written evaluation are required.
    • Written evaluation: Required
    • Performance evaluation: Required. Working as the lead responder in a scenario-based team setting, adequately direct the primary assessment and care of:
    • Patient Assessment/Management Trauma
    • Patient Assessment / Management- Medical
    • Students must perform required skills competently without assistance.
    • Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives rather than a prescribed instruction time.
    Certification
    • Prescribed class size is maximum 10.
    • Upon successful completion, students are awarded certification card and wall certificate valid for 2 years.
    • Course duration 3 days 

    Day 1

    • Chapter 1 - Introduction to EMS Systems and the Role of the First Responder
    • Chapter 2 - Legal and Ethical Principles of Emergency Care
    • Chapter 3 - The Wellness and Safety of the First Responder
    • Chapter 4 - Introduction to Anatomy

    Day 2
    • Chapter 5 - Principles of Lifting, Moving, and Positioning Ill or Injured People
    • Chapter 6 - Airway Management and Rescue Breathing
    • Chapter 7 - Principles of Assessment
    • Chapter 8 - Caring for Medical Emergencies
    • Chapter 9 - Caring for Soft-Tissue Injuries and Shock

    Day 3

    • Chapter 10 - Caring for Muscle and Bone Injuries
    • Chapter 11 - Caring for Injuries to the Head and Spine
    • Chapter 12 - Multiple-Casualty Incidents and Principles of Triage
    • Chapter 13 – Childbirth

    This course is designed for non-EMS responders including government, corporate, industry, lifeguards, security personnel, law enforcement, corrections personnel, and other individuals who are not EMS or healthcare providers, but desire or require certification in Advanced First Aid.

    Optional Course Topics:
    • Appendix 1 - Blood Pressure Monitoring
    • Appendix 2 - Airway Adjuncts, Suctioning, and Oxygen Therapy
    • Appendix 3 - Responding to a Terrorist Threat

    • Current, valid professional-level BLS certification (Basic Life Support).
    • Maybe incorporated/conducted in conjunction with the AFA program as needed.
