    Fundamentals of Omega

This course will provide knowledge and understanding of the Omega software processing package from setting up a project through use of the key applications. It will cover the applications used in day-to-day operations of a 3D seismic processing project. This will include creation of a project and an overview of the tools used in managing data and resources.

A simple example project will be created and exercises will be used to illustrate the key applications. At the end of this class, participants will have the necessary knowledge to be able to use the Omega Desktop applications to create a project and run a range of workflows including data input and QC, data analysis and production processing.

This course, when taken in conjunction with the applicable practical processing class (Marine, Land, Multicomponent or OBC), will enable the participant to undertake processing projects as member of a production processing team.

    Day 1

    Introduction and Project Setup

    • Introduction to Omega
    • Setting up a Project
    • Building Jobs
    • Creating the Global Parameter Database

At the end of this session the student will be able to create and organize a basic project. They will be able to build and save flows with the SeisFlow application and use the Global Parameter Database to save punit and survey information.

    Day 2

    Submitting and Monitoring Jobs

    • Saving and Submitting Jobs
    • Monitoring Jobs
    • Managing Data

At the end of this session the student will be able to use SeisFlow to submit jobs and use StageJobsViewer to manage and monitor their running jobs. They will be able to use Dataset Manager to view datasets and metadata.

    Day 3

Viewing Data with SeisView and QC

    • Viewing Data
    • Job QC
    • Further Job Creation

Participants will be able to read in and view data in SeisView, including use of display parameters. Students will learn how to QC jobs and use further functionality in SeisFlow.

    Day 4

    SeisView Toolkits and Job Triggering

    • Interactive Toolkits
    • TraceHeaderView
    • Job Triggering

At the end of this session students will be able to use the SeisView interactive toolkits to produce basic geophysical analyses. They will learn how to use TraceHeaderView as part of the QC process. Students will be able to use the triggering process to automate Omega for greater efficiency.

    Day 5

    Attributes and Grids

    • Attribute Creation and Viewing
    • Grids and Omega Utilities
    • Class Review

At the end of this session students will be able to create and display a range of attribute information with the Multi-Attribute Display tool. They will be able to explain how grids work and use the Grid Utility application to create master and processing grids. The class will round up with a review of the material covered and a chance to ask further questions.

This course is intended for anyone requiring an introduction to the Omega processing package
