    Hazardous Material Transportation

    Course description

    • An accident during the transport of hazardous materials can have catastrophic consequences such as fire, explosion, and toxic release. Whenever dangerous goods are transported within or outside a company, precautionary measures should be taken to ensure that the potential risks are communicated to persons who will come into contact with the materials during transportation.

    Objectives
    • On completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:
    • Understand the hazardous substances classification system
    • Demonstrate safe work practices relating to the storage and handling of dangerous goods at the premises and outside during transportation.
    • Interpret information provided on labels, signs, and placards
    • Locate a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) on how to use this information, and where to obtain any other relevant information
    • Identify the nature of the hazards and risks associated with the duties being performed
    • Apply emergency procedures

    • Dangerous goods classification
    • UN numbers and proper shipping numbers 
    • US DOT classifications, GHS  symbols, and pictograms
    • Packaging and labeling 
    • Break
    • Use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) (previously known as Material Safety Data Sheets, MSDS) and/or profile sheets;
    • Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous materials;
    • Properties of and risks associated with hazardous materials
    • Storage, handling, and decanting requirements;
    • Reporting of incidents
    • Certificate distribution to successful learners

    • The scope, or depth, of Dangerous Goods transportation training required is broadly dependent on the risk presented by the task performed by the individual. Consequently, any person, or persons, store & transport hazardous materials.


    • Dangerous goods classification.
    • UN numbers and proper shipping numbers.
    • US DOT classifications, GHS  symbols, and pictograms.
    • Packaging and labeling. 
    • Use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) (previously known as Material Safety Data Sheets, MSDS) and/or profile sheets;
    • Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling hazardous materials;
    • Properties of and risks associated with hazardous materials.
    • Storage, handling, and decanting requirements;
    • Reporting of incidents.
