    Instrument and Control Maintenance Techniques: Programmable Logic Controller Systems

    This training develops knowledge required to understand programmable logic controller systems and instructions, programming communications, editing and backing-up software, hard-wired systems, programmable logic controller systems interfacing, number systems, architecture, programmable logic controller systems inputs and outputs, addressing and protection, applications of programmable logic controller systems in the oilfield, advantages of programmable logic controller systems over hard-wired systems

    It also covers the maintenance procedures for PLC which they will be used in the Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Programmable Logic Controller Systems course

    Upon the completion of this module, the trainee will be able to:

    • Describe the purpose of each of the major PLC components
    • Discuss basic PLC operation
    • Describe the internal structure of the CPU
    • Identify typical input and output devices
    • Discuss the function of the I/O (input/output) modules
    • Identify types of signals used by PLC and discuss how they are handled
    • Define ladder logic and explain its use
    • Discuss how binary, octal, and hexadecimal numbering systems are used in PLC programming
