Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will introduce the trainee to the basic types of equipment and mechanical systems used in oil and gas production facilities. The objective is to develop an understanding of the function and control of key equipment. It includes a substantial simulation component to enhance understanding of production system operation and performance
Introduction to Basic Equipment and Systems for Oil and Gas Production
On completion of day one, the attendee will be able to generally describe the mechanical systems required for oil and gas production well operation, describe the types of pumps and tank systems that are typical of oil field production sites, how to monitor for proper operation, and the basic considerations in troubleshooting. Instruction for this day will include practice on the Simtronics DSS-100 Process Simulator, including SPM-100 Tank System, SPM-200 Pumping System, SPM-800 Centrifugal Pump and, SPM-3020 Three-Phase Separator
Day 2Compressor Operation
On completion of day two, the attendee will be able to describe the function of reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, how to monitor for proper operation, and the basic considerations in troubleshooting compressor operation. Instruction for this day will include practice on the Simtronics DSS-100 Process Simulator, including SPM-1300 Reciprocating Compressor, and SPM-1400 Centrifugal Compressor.
Day 3Instrumentation and System Control
On completion of day three, attendees will be able to describe instrumentation typically used for measurement of flow, temperature, pressure and level, plus basic control schemes for these parameters. In addition, the attendee will be able to describe basic schemes for control of well systems will and how to diagnose control problems. Instruction for this day will include practice on the Simtronics DSS-100 Process Simulator, including SPM-1100 Instrumentation I, SPM-1600 Instrumentation II, and SPM-3050 Tank Battery.
Day 4Well System Operation
On completion of day four, attendees will be able to describe overall concerns of operating production wells, plus considerations for monitoring well operation. In addition, the attendee will be able to describe how to interpret alarms and interlock trips in well operation and a basic approach to abnormal situation management. Instruction for this day will include practice on the Simtronics DSS-100 Process Simulator, including SPM-3050 Tank Battery, and SPM-3010 Advanced Gas-Oil Separation Process.
Day 5Well System Operation (Cont.)
On completion of day five, the attendee will be able to describe steps that may be taken to optimize well production, how to troubleshoot production issues, and operation of environmental remediation systems. Instruction for this day will include practice on the Simtronics DSS-100 Process Simulator, including SPM-3010 Advanced Gas-Oil Separation Process, and SPM-3100 Amine Treating Unit.
