    ISO 50001: Training of internal energy auditors

    Course Summary

    • A two-day course providing an understanding of the audit process and how to realize its true potential. Based on the requirements of ISO50001:2018 and ISO19011:2018   
    Course Objective
    • The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the principles and benefits of energy management and of an energy management system (EnMS) audit. It will facilitate the identification of energy processes within an organization. 
    • The course concentrates on ensuring the correct application of accepted audit protocols and provides participants with the skills necessary to plan and execute internal audits. It facilitates value-added auditing and reporting to aid enhanced. 
    Activities
    • Theoretical and Practical Implementation 
    The following points shall be discussed in the course:
    • Management systems and the need for audits 
    • Brief overview of the aim, structure, and uses of ISO 50001, including the requirements for risk-based thinking, process thinking and PDCA cycle from an auditing perspective
    • Establishing an internal audit program
    • Planning, preparation, performing and reporting of internal audits
    • Verifying corrective actions and dealing with difficult audit situations

    Module 1: Strategic Planning

    • The organization's approach to energy performance
    • Fundamentals of Energy Systems: PDCA Cycle. Risk-Based Approach and Process Approach
    • Energy Systems Audits:  Terms and Definitions, Auditing Principles, Auditor´s Competences, and Responsibilities.
    • Energy review, risks and opportunities, energy objectives and targets, and performance indicators.
    Module 2: Energy Planning – Support
    • Organization Context, Stakeholders, Policies, Objectives.
    • Energy Culture of the Organization: Stages of Development.
    • Resources, competencies, communications, documentary control of the EnMS
    • Leadership, functions, roles, and responsibilities.
    • Practice: Application of the audit tool – Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 of ISO 50001:2018 – Proposal of Corrective Actions.

    Module 3: Operation

    • Planning and operational control.
    • Efficient designs.
    • Procurement of appropriate goods and services.
    Module 4: Performance – Improvement
    • Mechanisms for measuring, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of the EnMS, reports of internal audits.
    • Nonconformities and corrective actions
    • Continuous improvement.
    • Practice: Application of the audit tool – Chapters 8, 9, and 10 of ISO 50001:2018 – Proposal of Corrective Actions.

    • This course is recommended for anyone who is planning to perform internal audits/preparing to become an external auditor of energy management systems.
    • All stakeholders supporting energy efficiency projects.
