Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course is a revision of main concepts of Hydraulic Fracturing in conventional formations, including tight sandstones, and the application of Microseismic Imaging to Fracturing Operations. The first three of this course overviews the main concepts of Hydraulic Fracturing and the last two days discuss Fracture Mapping through Microseismic. Hydraulic Fracturing is illustrated by numerous exercises to facilitate the understanding of the topics. In Microseismic, the theoretical background of acquisition, processing, and interpretation of the data will presented, focusing on practical considerations related to executing a successful imaging project. The theoretical basis will be closely tied to key field examples in order to demonstrate specific aspects. Potential interpretation pitfalls will be stressed in terms of data quality, image accuracy, sensitivity, and resolution, as well as fundamental limitations of the data related to geomechanics. Quality control attributes will be presented in order for participants to better understand the data limitations and confidence, especially the potential impact on interpretation. Finally, an overview of advanced processing and future research directions will be discussed.
Fracture Modeling and Containment
Day One will teach participants about fracture modeling and containment. Other topics that will be covered on this day include candidate selection, fracture initiation, new wellbore geometry and frac growth analysis. Participants will get the opportunity to learn about 2D and P3D models, along with data acquisition, log data, and microfracture and minifrac testing.
Day 2
Frac Fluids and Proppants
On this day, participants will learn about frac fluids. This will include the rheology of frac fluids, types of fluids, fluid additives, and fluid leak-off. Proppants, propped pack conductivity, and resin-coated proppants will also be covered. The day will end with a discussion over proppant flow back.
Day 3Preparation of Frac Treatments, Perforating for Fracturing, Production Prediction and Minifrac Analysis
The third day will focus on preparation of fracturing treatments, perforating, frac evaluation, overview of acid fracturing, post-frac production prediciton and minifrac analysis. Participants will learn about steps in frac design, and perforating for fracturing. Preparing and executing fracs will also be covered. The day will end with the discussion of post-frac treatments and evaluation.
Day 4
Theoretical Considerations and Basic Processing
Day 4 will begin with teaching participants about the theoretical considerations for microseismic imaging. The day will continue with a discussion over acquisition and basic processing.
Day 5Fracture Interpretation and Pitfalls
The last day will focus on teaching participants about fracture interpretation and how to avoid common interpretation pitfalls. Advanced processing and interpretation will also be covered on this day.
This course is aimed for geoscience and engineering personnel involved with the mapping of fracturing operations using microseismic, in the planning, execution, and interpretation of microseismic data to image hydraulic fracturing.
Skills in fracturing design and operations, sound knowledge of Geomechanics and well completions and well intervention opertations.
