    Oil Stabilization

The stabilization process is a form of partial distillation which sweetens "sour" crude oil (removes the hydrogen sulfide) and reduces vapor pressure, thereby making the crude oil safe for shipment in tankers.  Stabilizers maximize production of valuable hydrocarbon liquids, while making the liquids safe for storage and transport, as well as reduce the atmospheric emissions of volatile hydrocarbons.  Stabilizer plants are used to reduce the volatility of stored crude oil and condensate.

In this course participants will learn about the stabilization process, the equipment within that system, and how the stabilization system operates.

Participants will also be exposed to the control parameters in the stabilization process.  They will become familiar with the process variables and chemical composition of the fluids that are involved in the stabilization process.

    Day 1

    Stabilization Process

    • Process overview
    • Equipment
    • Control schemes and operation
    • Safety aspects
    • Emergency Shutdown Devise (ESD) considerations

On day one, participants will be exposed to an overview of the stabilization process with the use of flow diagrams.  They will also learn about the equipment and the control schemes used, as well as the safety aspects and ESD considerations.

    Day 2

    Stabilization System Components

    • Control parameters
    • Operational variables
    • Variables affecting crude oil stabilization

On the second day, participants will gain an understanding of the operational variables and control parameters that have to be considered in oil stabilization systems, in order to ensure safe and efficient production.  They will also become familiar with the chemical composition of the crude oil and the components that have to be removed to stabilize it.

This course is mainly targeted to process technicians, process technologists, and laboratory and maintenance personnel.  The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment and materials purchasing, equipment procurement, job planning, as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.

Participants should have some recent exposure to oil and gas facility terminology.
